Billy Summers

Summary

Stephen a la King, the cool hand Duke of Dark , Maestro of Mayhem high atop the pantheon of Hall of Fame sci-fi and horror excellence, introduces Billy Summers just a regular guy with a regular job. Review

Monsters of the human variety are perhaps the worst kind. Billy’s fair but won’t be pushed. Though a hired gun, he helps those needing compassion and another chance, he does the right thing for the right reason. He fights for those thrown away, abused and left for dead. A champion for the oppressed.

A time to heal, a time to kill.

Time came for Billy to hang it up. He wanted a way out. Requiring all the skills he acquired in the military and on the job, he was the best there was. He had one eye on the last mission, one eye on the next, and another eye on collecting payment.

As the great Lebowski opined, “This aggression will not stand, man!” (And yes there is a book “The Big Lebowski: An Illustrated, Annotated History of the Greatest Cult Film of All Time“ by Jenny M. Jones).

King taps into Billy’s compassionate nature, heart, virtuousness and new founded expanded morality. He can’t just walk away allowing a few choice sociopaths to roam the streets unfettered terrorizing those vulnerable and weaker than themselves. Can he? To allow evil to keep getting away with it doesn’t sit right with him. Not at all. No sir.

I think it’s his most satisfying book which is saying a lot given his world dominance for half a century. Billy explores the conflict of the everyday trying to be a normal person by quietly fixing his life if not for those that just won’t leave well enough alone. Billy’s work is lonely, isolating but somebody’s got to do it but the his gunsight clouds when he discovers what is feels like to feel again.

King has published over 50 books including non-fiction and short stories, was the recipient of the 2003 National Book Foundation Medal for Distinguished Contribution to the American Letters and the 2014 National Medal of Arts, honored philanthropist, loved by hundreds of millions of fans and one of the world’s most successful writers ever.
