The Fix

The Fix

Summary

Taking a mysteriously cerebral approach,  “The Fix” the explosive memory man series continues with real life super mental abilities of lead Amos Decker.

Review

A former pro big-bodied footballer Amos Decker is no shrinking violet but loses his way after a serious injury. The very rare but very real brain condition allows him to see and feel visions out of thin air allowing him to take down and take out rogue evil in a ways only he can do. The mentally enhanced yet pained detective is an intriguing plot line all by itself. If every real investigator was this cool busting up crime, books wouldn’t be another crime novel written as crime would be a thing from the past tense. The streets would be cozy and crime-free. Safe as warm apple pie a la mode and bacon for breakfast.

Decker doesn’t need to do a lot wrestling or popping people as stealth and his elevated senses are his weapons of choice. But he, and he alone, is the only hope that any clever madmen thrown his way will be illuminated and dealt with Without a moment’s warning, metaphysical bio-sensing intrude. Fragments and pieces of the puzzle feed into his mind.

Unwanted involuntary skills he never wished for are both blessing and curse. His determination to snare his prey is undying. We know a humble superhero when we see one as he sweeps through the streets disposing truly awful miscreants that otherwise would never be found or stopped without Decker’s intuitive abilities to suss them out of their lairs.

Reluctant to join the forces of good fighting evil, his conscience drives him to do right thing. He uses his new-found abilities for those that no longer can help themselves. It’s embedded. A responsibility.Just as most of his would like to have his uncanny awareness, he longed for the simple life, his former life.

The reality of living with heightened senses is overwhelming at times, and nightmarish.
